How to Get to El Nido in 2026: Clark Flights, Puerto Princesa Vans & the Coron Ferry

How to get to El Nido in 2026: no useful direct Manila flight. Fly Clark to Lio, fly Puerto Princesa + 5–6 hr van, or ferry from Coron. Pick your route.

In 2026 there is no useful direct NAIA → El Nido flight: turboprops left Manila on 29 March, so you either go to Clark for Lio, fly to Puerto Princesa and van 5–6 hours, or enter via Coron and ferry. Pick the route that matches your dates, then sleep in Corong-Corong if you want the boat at your door the next morning.

This guide walks through each option in traveler order — flight or ferry first, then the last-mile ride to town or the beach strip — so you can land, check in, and still make a 9 AM island-hopping day without scrambling. Logistics change; treat operator names and schedules as last checked 3 September 2026 and confirm live before you book.

The 2026 rule: why Manila (NAIA) is no longer a direct hop

For years, backpackers treated Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as the default jump to Lio Airport (ENI). That pattern broke when turboprop operations moved off NAIA from 29 March 2026. Direct seats into El Nido now typically leave Clark International (CRK) or connect via other Philippine hubs. Manila hotel guests still get to El Nido — they just need an extra transfer or a different hub.

What did not change: Bacuit Bay is still the same limestone maze, Corong-Corong still faces the islands, and island boats still leave early. The only thing that shifted is how you reach the runway.

Option 1 — Clark (CRK) → Lio Airport (ENI)

This is the cleanest air path for most international arrivals who can spare a morning or overnight near Clark. You fly into CRK (or transfer from NAIA), then take a short turboprop hop to Lio. Total airborne time on the final leg is usually around an hour; the real planning work is getting yourself to Clark on time.

Who this is for; transfer Manila → Clark

Best if: you want the shortest total door-to-beach time once you are at CRK, you are arriving internationally into Clark already, or you found a sensible seat to ENI (AirSWIFT and other carriers have flown this hop — confirm the operator when you book).

Manila → Clark transfer: budget 2–3 hours from a central Manila hotel in normal traffic, more in rain or peak hours. Common options include Genesis P2P coaches and private vans. Build a buffer before your Lio flight — Clark is not “just outside Makati.” Overnight near CRK the night before a dawn departure is boring and smart.

Once you land at Lio Airport (ENI), you are already on northern Palawan. The remaining ride is a tricycle or shared van into El Nido town or Corong-Corong — see the Lio section below.

Option 2 — NAIA → Puerto Princesa (PPS) → van to El Nido (5–6 hours)

If Clark seats are sold out, pricey, or your dates only work on a Manila–Puerto Princesa jet, this is still a solid classic route. Fly NAIA (or another hub) to Puerto Princesa (PPS), then take a van north along the island road to El Nido. Expect roughly 5–6 hours of road time depending on stops, weather, and traffic through the municipalities en route.

San Jose terminal vs airport vans; what to budget in time

Vans leave from points around Puerto Princesa, including the San Jose terminal corridor and airport-adjacent shared vans. Airport vans are convenient when you land mid-afternoon and want to roll north the same day; terminal vans can be cheaper or more frequent depending on the hour. Either way:

This route trades a short Clark–Lio hop for a longer scenic drive. It remains popular with travelers who already booked PPS for other Palawan plans, or who simply found a better jet fare into the provincial capital.

Option 3 — via Coron (Busuanga USU + ferry 3.5–4 hours)

Doing both El Nido and Coron is the dual-base Palawan move — and the ferry between them is still the backpacker spine. Fly into Francisco B. Reyes Airport (USU) on Busuanga Island, van into Coron town, overnight (or tour), then take the El Nido–Coron fast ferry south. Sea time is typically about 3.5–4 hours; schedules and operators rotate with weather and demand, so confirm the name on your ticket. Full Coron access notes live in How to get to Coron in 2026.

Best if: you already want Coron lakes and wrecks on the same trip, you found a strong Clark or Cebu → USU fare, or El Nido seats into Lio are awkward on your dates. Arrive in El Nido by afternoon ferry and you can still settle into Corong-Corong before dinner — just do not expect to squeeze Tour A the same afternoon.

Option 4 — Cebu / Caticlan / Panglao → Lio (when it fits the itinerary)

If your Philippines trip is Visayas-heavy — Cebu (CEB), Boracay/Caticlan, Panglao — a one-way into Lio can beat backtracking to Manila. These routes are seasonal and aircraft-dependent. Treat them as “check Google Flights / airline apps the week you book,” not as guaranteed daily service. When they work, they let you land in El Nido without ever touching NAIA turboprops.

Lio Airport to Corong-Corong (tricycle, what to tell the driver)

Lio sits north of El Nido town. From the terminal:

  1. Exit to the transport area and take a tricycle (or arranged van if you have big bags / a group).
  2. Tell the driver Corong-Corong or, more specifically, Sitio Lugadia, Barangay Corong-Corong if you are heading to the beach strip (Outpost El Nido sits here, with Bacuit Bay in front of the property).
  3. For town hostels, say El Nido town / Masagana / Hama instead.

Daylight arrivals are easy. After dark, still doable — agree the fare before you leave, keep your bag between your feet, and message your hostel when you roll out so someone knows you are on the way. Budget a short ride, not a cross-island odyssey; the mental model is “airport → strip,” not “airport → nowhere.”

First night: town vs Corong-Corong if your boat is tomorrow

If island hopping is day one of your El Nido plan, choose your bed with the 9 AM bangka in mind.

Most first-timers who care about Tour A sleep town or Corong-Corong, not Nacpan (Nacpan is ~40 minutes north — beautiful beach days, awkward lagoon mornings). The neighborhood tradeoffs are in Where to stay in El Nido. Browse rooms on the Stay page once your flight or ferry is locked.

ETDF and tour-day timing (9 AM boats)

Two timing rules save headaches:

  1. Boats leave at 9 AM on typical hostel island days — including Outpost’s in-house El Nido tours. Landing at Lio at noon and hoping for a same-day Tour A is almost always a no.
  2. The El Nido Eco-Tourism Development Fee (ETDF) — travelers also say EDTF — is a one-time municipal tourism fee. Confirm the current amount and validity window at the desk or municipal booth when you pay (commonly quoted as ₱400; length of validity can change — check the stamp). Keep the receipt. Big Lagoon on Tour A has its own entrance fee; kayaks are usually extra. Details live on the El Nido island hopping tours page.

Arrive the afternoon or evening before your first boat day. Eat, sleep, set an alarm, and walk to breakfast — kitchen hours at Outpost start early enough for coffee before the bangka.

FAQs

Are there direct flights from Manila NAIA to El Nido in 2026?

Not in the useful everyday sense travelers used before. After turboprops left NAIA on 29 March 2026, direct Lio flights are typically planned from Clark (CRK) or via other hubs. Always re-check current airline schedules the week you book — last checked 3 September 2026.

Is Clark or Puerto Princesa cheaper/faster from a Manila hotel?

Faster door-to-El-Nido usually favors Clark → Lio once you are at CRK, because you skip the 5–6 hour van. Cheaper depends on the day’s jet vs turboprop fares plus your Manila→Clark transfer cost. From a Makati or Manila Bay hotel, add 2–3 hours and a coach/van fare before you compare “ticket price only.”

How do I get from Lio to Corong-Corong after dark?

Tricycles still run after sunset; agree the price first and share your live location with someone at the hostel. Tell the driver Sitio Lugadia, Corong-Corong. If you land very late and feel uneasy, ask your hostel about an arranged pickup before you fly.

Can I fly in and do Tour A the same day?

Usually no. Standard departure is 9 AM. Same-day only works if you somehow arrive the night before in practice — meaning a previous evening ferry or an impossibly early positioning flight. Plan to sleep in El Nido first, boat second.
